Migrants’ Day Celebration

I had the privilege of attending the Karam Festival, celebrated for the first time in the Diocese of Nashik under the leadership of Bishop Barthol Barretto and coordinated by Fr Neville Fernandes C.Ss.R on Sunday, September 29 at Holy Cross Church, Nashik. This event was a deeply meaningful experience for me and my wife and was filled with spiritual connection, cultural richness, and community bonding.

The festival began with the solemn Eucharistic celebration followed by a gathering that was wonderfully anchored by Sr Mukti. She not only guided the program smoothly but also added an entertaining touch by incorporating Hindi shayari into her dialogues, which kept the audience engaged and brought smiles to everyone’s faces. Her warm and lively presence truly enhanced the overall experience. One of the most striking moments during the Mass was the entrance dance performed by the Sisters of St Joseph of Chambery to a beautiful Sadri song. Their graceful movements added a deeply spiritual atmosphere, making it an unforgettable start to the day.

Following the Mass, we enjoyed a variety of cultural performances. The Karam Nagpuri dance by the Sisters of St Joseph of Chambery was vibrant and lively, while the prayer dance by the Queen of the Apostles and Assumption Sisters beautifully expressed devotion. Fr Xavier Kandulna’s narration of the Karam Festival’s origins added depth, connecting the cultural tradition with our shared spiritual journey.

A particularly personal highlight was reconnecting with people from our native place after more than 20 years. This reunion, filled with warmth and shared memories, reminded me of the strong bonds we share, no matter where life takes us. It felt like coming home after a long time, and I could see how God's love continues to bring us together despite the different paths we have taken.

I want to express my sincere thanks to Fr Vijay Gonsalves, Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, and Fr Neville Fernandes, as well as the Religious Sisters, whose efforts made this festival possible. The organization was flawless, and the hospitality extended by everyone made us feel welcome and cherished. The food served was delicious and added to the joy of the day.

This entire experience was only made possible by the vision and care of Bp Barthol Barretto, to whom I am deeply grateful. My wife and I left the event feeling spiritually renewed and full of joy, and we look forward to future gatherings with even greater enthusiasm.

In conclusion, the Karam Festival was not just a celebration of faith and culture but also a deeply personal journey of reconnecting with our roots and community. I pray for God's blessings on all who attended, and I look forward to meeting again soon with renewed energy and excitement.
