Circular 38/2024
November 06, 2024
My dear collaborators,
We are aware that the State of Maharashtra will conduct Assembly elections on
Wednesday, November 20, 2024. This is an opportune time for us to participate in the democratic process. It is our fundamental right to ensure that good and honest people are elected as our representatives, so that the needs of our people are satisfied, and each one is treated with respect and dignity.
Hence, may I request you:
To motivate your parishioners to participate in the Assembly elections on November 20. Nothing should prevent them from casting their vote. Should they want to go out of station, please inform them that they can do so after casting their vote.
To make our people aware of the problems they are facing – unemployment, economic inequality, acts of injustice, lack of freedom of speech, etc.
To motivate our people to elect those who will respect the values enshrined in the Constitution of India and not to be swayed by “false” and “empty” promises.
May I earnestly request you to include a prayer on Sundays preceding November 20, 2024, in the Prayer of the Faithful for the success of the Maharashtra Assembly Elections:
Lord, we pray for the Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled for November 20, that all eligible voters may reflect on the right candidate to be elected, so that our Constitution is safeguarded and the values enshrined in it are not tampered with; for this, we pray to the Lord.
Thank you for your valuable work in the parishes of our Diocese, and God bless you.
Yours in Christ,
✠ Barthol Barretto
Bishop, Diocese of Nashik
